Migrants are taking over empty flats in Poland’s capital Warsaw, the country’s opposition leader has claimed.
Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the opposition Law and Justice party (PiS), said the situation regarding the stay of migrants in Warsaw is already very difficult and inconvenient facts are being hushed up. He said:
Security is at risk, empty buildings are being occupied by migrants.
Kaczyński criticised Poland’s new migration strategy for 2025-30 presented by the government. According to the politician, the document lacks the denunciation of the EU migration pact. Kaczyński is convinced that much is being done to accustom Polish society to the presence of migrants.
The PiS leader believes that the document does not solve the problems with migration:
It can be perceived as a document that prepares the implementation of the multi-culti policy and the migration pact in Poland.
Jarosław Kaczyński is convinced that if Donald Tusk really wanted to show that he is opposed to migration-related threats, he would have signed the civil proposal for a referendum on the migration pact initiated by PiS.
Kaczyński then began listing examples of cases of aggression by migrants in Warsaw:
There are already places in Warsaw where the police warn about migrants– where there are attempts to break into apartments and houses at night.
The opposition leader’s remarks were criticised by government politicians, including Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak. He accused Kaczyński of sowing fear, as he claimed in 2015, by making, according to Siemoniak, “disgraceful statements about immigrants who carry parasites.”
He also added that if the opposition leader has evidence of security breaches, he should report them to the police.
Migration was a key issue in last year’s parliamentary elections, which brought Tusk’s centre-left coalition to power. He and his party attacked PiS for allowing hundreds of thousands of migrants to enter on work visas, while “demonising” migrants in general.
Since coming to power, Tusk’s government has taken a tougher stance on illegal migration at the border and has restricted the issuance of work and student visas.
