Pope Francis, who is undergoing treatment including treatment for bilateral pneumonia, continues his recovery process, Vatican reported on Sunday.
“The Pope, after a restful night, continues his recovery process on Sunday 9 March. A statement from doctors on Saturday night said the patient is showing a good response to therapy,” the report said.
The pontiff’s condition has been stable for several days. He has not recently experienced episodes of respiratory failure. However, doctors clarified the day before that their prognosis regarding the pontiff’s health condition is “reserved,” as the danger to Francis remains.
Despite the Pope’s illness, the Vatican continues normal activities, including events related to the Jubilee Year (Holy Year): during it, the faithful can receive full absolution. In this regard, millions of pilgrims are expected in Rome.
In January Francis fell ill with bronchitis, and on February 14 he was hospitalised at the Agostino Gemelli Clinic in Rome because the illness had become chronic. After X-rays and laboratory tests, the pontiff was also diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia.
