Pope Francis criticised incoming US President Donald Trump’s plans to deport millions of illegal immigrants, Politico reported.
Asked about large-scale immigration raids planned in Chicago days after Trump’s inauguration, the Pope said on Sunday that “if true, this will be a disgrace.”
This is not the way to solve things.
Trump, who is being sworn in on Monday, has promised to launch “the largest deportation programme in American history,” expelling millions of undocumented immigrants on the first day of his presidency.
Back in 2016, Pope Francis called Trump “not Christian” over his plans to build a wall on the US-Mexico border. Then in response, Trump called the pontiff “disgraceful” and a “very political person.” Later in 2017, the two allegedly settled their disputes during Trump’s visit to the Vatican.
The Pope also urged countries with falling birth rates to accept more migrants, adding that they should be “integrated.”
Italy has an average age of 46… let migrants in… If the migrant is not integrated, it is a problem.
Outgoing US President Joe Biden was due to meet the Pope during his last foreign trip as president. However, he cancelled the visit amid catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles.
