On Sunday, Pope Francis called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the immense destruction is painful and has terrible consequences for people.
Pope Francis on Sunday urged efforts to reach a cease-fire in Gaza: “Enough, please.”
“I carry in my heart with pain the suffering the people of Palestine and Israel,” the pontiff said in his weekly Angelus message.
He also reiterated his desire to release hostages and increase humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, as 85% of Gaza’s population was displaced amid severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine, and 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure was damaged or destroyed.
Israel launched an offensive on the Gaza Strip following the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack that killed nearly 1,200 people, leaving over 30,000 killed and 71,700 affected amid widespread destruction and shortage of necessities.
“Is this really how we plan to build a better world? Stop, Enough,” he stressed.
