Poroshenko: “This is an anti-Ukrainian diversion”

Petro Poroshenko, the former president of Ukraine, says he was not allowed to leave the country on Friday morning.

On Friday morning, he published a video of himself at a border crossing with Poland, saying he was not allowed in and holding documents that he said showed he had official permission to cross the border to solve problems related to the blocking of Ukrainian truckers. From there, he planned to go to the US to negotiate further military assistance.

The deputy speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Oleksandr Korniyenko, later confirmed that he had cancelled Poroshenko’s permission to leave the country. However, he refused to comment on why such a decision was taken.

“This is an anti-Ukrainian diversion,” Poroshenko expressed. “It is not just the hampering of my entire team’s diplomatic work, but unfortunately a blow to Ukraine’s defence capabilities.”

Poroshenko led Ukraine from 2014 to 2019 and is now an opposition MP who heads the European Solidarity party, which openly opposes many of the decisions of the current presidential administration.
