“Positive prognosis” for injured Slovak Robert Fico

Slovak prime minister’s condition now has “a positive prognosis” after Friday’s surgery, according to Le Monde.

Slovakia’s health minister said Saturday that the life of Robert Fico, who was assassinated, is no longer in danger, with the prognosis for his recovery positive.

Fitzo has been in hospital since Wednesday, when a lone gunman shot him four times, including in the stomach. He underwent a five-hour surgery on Wednesday and another on Friday, both at a hospital in the town of Banska Bistrica in central Slovakia.

“Yesterday’s surgery, which took two hours, contributed to a positive prognosis of the prime minister’s health condition,” Health Minister Zuzana Dolinkova told reporters.

Juraj Cintula, 71, a suspect in the attempted assassination of the Slovak prime minister, on Saturday was placed in a detention centre by the Special Criminal Court in Pezinok, northeast of the capital Bratislava.
