On Sunday, 67-year-old Prince Albert II of Monaco celebrated a significant milestone: 20 years since his accession to the throne.
A celebration was organised in the principality to mark the anniversary. Albert shared this historic moment with the people of Monaco, who gathered in the Palace Square, decorated for the occasion. He was supported by his wife, 47-year-old Princess Charlene, and their children: 10-year-old twins Jacques and Gabriella.
For the event, Charlene chose a pink Oscar de la Renta dress worth almost six thousand dollars. Her look was complemented by white pointed-toe shoes and miniature pearl earrings. Gabriella wore a white dress and sandals, and her hair was adorned with flowers woven into her hairstyle.
One of the highlights of the evening was the Prince’s touching speech of gratitude to the people of Monaco. “At my age, it’s rare to celebrate your 20th birthday,” Prince Albert II said humorously before greeting his family: “Every day I thank my wife, Princess Charlene, and my children, Jacques and Gabriella, for their love and support.”
In an atmosphere of simplicity and closeness, the princely couple, surrounded by their children, took a long walk around the square to personally greet the Monegasques in attendance. The evening ended on a festive note with the presentation of an impressive almond biscuit cake in the colours of Monaco to the gathered crowd, bringing the joyful and touching celebrations to a close.
Albert II ascended the throne in July 2005, succeeding his father Rainier III. Albert’s mother is the famous Hollywood actress Grace Kelly, who Rainier III married in 1956.
