Prince William made his first public appearance on Thursday since his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, revealed her diagnosis last month, CBS News reports.
Kate, as she is commonly known, is undergoing treatment for an unspecified cancer and William has not appeared in public for several weeks to support his wife. He returned to royal affairs on Thursday, visiting a food charity.
William met with leaders of Surplus to Supper, a non-profit group that delivers food that would otherwise be thrown away by shops to those in need.
Last week, the Prince of Wales was spotted at a private social event, cheering from the stands alongside his eldest son, Prince George, at an Aston Villa football match.
Kate’s announcement in a video in March that she had started a course of “preventative chemotherapy” sparked a flurry of sympathy around the world. In the UK, the princess has become the most popular member of the royal family, according to polls. She last appeared in public on Christmas Day, when she attended a church service with her family.
Kate, however, has made it clear that she will only return to her royal duties when she’s ready.
“We hope that you’ll understand that as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment,” she said in the video. “For now, I must focus on making a full recovery.”
King Charles III, who is also undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer, met well-wishers outside a church on Easter Sunday.
“Keep going strong,” said one man in the crowd, “never give in.”
