Prince William reveals new details of Princess of Wales’ condition

Prince William has spoken positively about his wife’s health in one of the few public comments from the royal family about Princess Catherine’s condition since she announced she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

On 10 May, William’s first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall in 2022 took place. It is the prince’s first overnight trip since his wife revealed in March that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment after tests following abdominal surgery revealed she had cancer.

Tracy Smith, an administrator at St Mary’s Community Hospital in Hugh Town, greeted William when he arrived and gave him a tour of the small medical centre after his visit to the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago off the coast of Cornwall in southwest England, on Friday, where he bought his companions Cornish pasties.

At St. Mary’s Community Hospital, the heir to the throne was asked how Catherine is doing, to which the Prince of Wales replied, “She’s doing well. Thank you.” He also added that the children “are very jealous that I am here… Maybe we might come later in the year.”

The Princess of Wales stepped away from public duties on 22 March shortly after announcing she had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer and was undergoing preventative chemotherapy. In a video message, she gave details and said she had started chemotherapy. The couple’s office said they would not provide regular updates on her health.

The princess’s announcement came after King Charles III, her father-in-law, announced his cancer diagnosis last month. Charles returned to his duties last week after Buckingham Palace said doctors were encouraged by his progress, although his treatment continues.
