Princess Catharina-Amalia returns to duty after arm surgery

Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands has returned to her royal duties after suffering a serious injury.

Just over a month after undergoing surgery to repair her broken arm, Princess of Orange accompanied her father to a ceremony to present a new regimental banner. King Willem-Alexander and his eldest daughter visited Princess Catharina-Amalia’s hussar regiment at the Prince Bernhard Barracks in Amersfoort.

Formed in 2020 from three separate regiments, the cavalry regiment, named after the heir to the throne, oversees the operations of all Dutch military tanks and performs other duties. Despite her broken arm, the future queen showed excellent style during her public appearance. She wore a mid-length dress by the royal family’s favourite designer, Nathan Couture, in bright red, pink and orange with a floral print, and complemented the outfit with dark red shoes and a matching clutch bag. A khaki cocktail hat completed the look.

Although Princess Catharina-Amalia is still wearing a sling to help with healing, she was able to remove it for photos with the regiment.

On May 10, the Royal Court of the Netherlands issued the following statement: “Princess of Orange broke her arm after falling from a horse today. She will undergo surgery at the UMC in Utrecht.” This was the first time Amalia has suffered such an injury. Princess Ariana broke her wrist in February 2018 while ice skating.
