Princess Catherine confirmed her attendance at Trooping the Colour, which will be her first public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis – CNN.
Crowds gather in London for Trooping the Colour, the King’s official birthday parade, after the Princess of Wales announced her attendance at the event. People of all ages have gathered along the length of the shopping centre.
The Princess of Wales will watch the the parade with her family nearby and may join other members of the royal family on the balcony. The event is significant in the Princess’ life and British society as it is her first public appearance since Christmas, when she faced a cancer diagnosis.
The Princess provided an update on her health on Friday, saying she has made “good progress” in her recovery, but added that she expects her treatment to continue for several more months.
Charles III is also taking part, despite also undergoing treatment for cancer, but will participate in a carriage rather than on horseback as the 75-year-old King continues treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.
The doctors are heartened by his progress, so King Charles was able to resume public duties in April, but each of his events is reviewed and adapted as necessary. On Saturday he will hold a review of the troops sitting in the Ascot Londo carriage alongside Queen Camilla.
Trooping the Colour involves 1,400 officers and soldiers, along with 400 musicians and 200 horses, marching through the streets of London from Buckingham Palace to the Horse Guards Parade. The event is a tradition, marking the official birthday of the British monarch for more than 260 years.
