Protesters in the Netherlands disagree with Geert Wilders’ victory

The protests were held in the Netherlands capital against the victory of Geert Wilders of the Freedom Party (PVV).

Demonstrators gathered at the Dam Square in the capital Amsterdam to protest against the victory of far-right and Freedom Party (PVV) leader Geert Wilders in the general election.

They expressed concern about the rise of far-right parties in the country, which they said threatened the harmony of the Dutch public.

There were also banners reading “No to fascism” and “Geert=fascist,” while protesters simultaneously chanted slogans including “No to fascism” and “Stop racism.”

Lars Meyer, a 23-year-old protester, said he took part in the demonstration to speak out against Wilders. He also expressed concern about a rise in Islamophobia if Wilders becomes prime minister.

Protester Roos Korste, 60 year-old-man, told Anadolu Agency that things in the country could get worse if the PVV comes to power.

The Dutch election board announced the results on Friday, confirming the victory of Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party (PVV), which went mainstream with 37 seats.
