Putin, Xi strengthen strategic ties at summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping signed a joint statement on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries at a summit in Beijing on Thursday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China reports.

President Xi again warmly welcomed President Putin to China on a state visit. He noted that this is President Putin’s first overseas visit since the start of his new presidential term. It also fully shows that President Putin himself and the Russian government attach great importance to the development of China-Russia relations.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. This is an important milestone year in the history of China-Russia relations. Over the past 75 years, China and Russia have together found a new way for major countries and neighbouring states to treat each other with respect, strive for friendship and mutually beneficial co-operation.

Thanks to the concerted efforts of the two sides, China-Russia relations have steadily advanced, comprehensive strategic coordination has been strengthened, and co-operation in economy and trade, investment, energy, people-to-people exchanges, subnational level and other areas has been expanded. This makes a positive contribution to maintaining global strategic stability and promoting greater democracy in international relations.

75th anniversary of China

Meanwhile, this year celebrates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. China is pushing forward Chinese modernisation on all fronts and accelerating the pace of building new high-quality productive forces through high-quality development, which will give new impetus to global economic growth. Both China and Russia are permanent members of the UN Security Council and major emerging markets.

Deepening strategic coordination, expanding mutually beneficial co-operation and following the common historical trend of world multipolarity and economic globalisation are the common strategic choices of both countries. Both sides should take the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations as a new starting point, continue to synergise development strategies and enrich bilateral co-operation to bring greater benefits to the two countries and peoples.

President Xi expressed his willingness to work with President Putin to jointly determine the future direction of bilateral relations and build new co-operation plans between the two countries in various fields.
