King Frederik and Queen Mary were warmly welcomed in Tórshavn on Wednesday as they began their three-day historic visit to the Faroe Islands, and they were not alone.
To everyone’s surprise, their 14-year-old daughter, Princess Josephine, joined them on the royal tour. The young princess, twin sister of Prince Vincent, made a surprise appearance when the family disembarked from the royal ship Dannebrog.
Josephine looked elegant in a dark blue coat, red knitwear and wide grey trousers as she joined her parents in greeting the excited crowd.Smiling warmly and shaking hands, Josephine demonstrated the natural tact and poise of royalty before accompanying King Frederik and Queen Mary to a reception at Tingane and then visiting parliament.
Princess Josephine has already established herself as a royal figure to watch. This momentous visit marks the first official trip by Danish monarchs to the Faroe Islands since Frederik ascended the throne. Originally planned for last summer, the tour was postponed due to a strike, making this week’s visit even more significant.
Earlier, Josephine took part in the Royal Run, completing distances of 1.6 km, 5 km and 10 km. Although her presence at the run was known, her participation in official public events came as a pleasant surprise.
