The evacuation of sick and wounded residents of the Gaza Strip will continue to be carried out through the Karem Abu Salem checkpoint, there is no information about the use of the Rafah checkpoint for this purpose, according to the enclave’s Ministry of Health.
The Gaza Ministry of Health stated that the procedure for transporting patients and casualties outside the Strip remains unchanged. The ministry emphasised that there have been no updates regarding the evacuation of sick and wounded people through the Rafah crossing point, and all procedures continue to be carried out through the Karem Abu Salem crossing point.
At the same time, the Egyptian television channel Al-Qahira Al-Ikhbariya reported the arrival of the first group of Palestinians intending to return from Egypt to the Gaza Strip at the Rafah border crossing. The channel showed footage of people approaching the border from Egypt, preparing to cross it in the direction of Gaza.
According to the channel, ambulances arrived at the Red Crescent Society hospital in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip to transport the sick and wounded to Egypt. The Egyptian side is preparing to receive the injured Palestinians and subsequently place them in medical facilities.
Earlier, the Rafah checkpoint on the border with Egypt, which is the main exit from the Gaza Strip to the outside world, had been opened on a trial basis for pedestrian traffic. Israeli media noted that passage through the crossing would be limited: up to 150 people per day would be allowed to leave the Gaza Strip and up to 50 people would be allowed to return. At the same time, it was emphasised that the import of humanitarian cargo through the Rafah crossing would not be permitted.
