Refugees should receive less money than Germans, says CDU

The opposition Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc says asylum seekers should be paid less money in unemployment benefits than German citizens, according to Bild.

As budget expenditure on benefits increases dramatically, the proportion of beneficiaries from states such, as Syria and Afghanistan, is also increasing. Chairman of the CSU Parliamentary Group Alexander Dobrindt said:

There must be a new system of welfare benefits for asylum seekers that is lower than the citizen’s benefit. Anyone who refuses reasonable work should expect a reduction in benefits.

Meanwhile, CDU/CSU spokesman Alexander Throm called for compulsory community service for refugees.

Learn the language in the morning, take care of the park in the afternoon. Everyone has to do his or her part. (…) This social benefit is received by fewer and fewer of our citizens and more and more immigrants, especially refugees.

According to Bild, since 2010, the share of foreigners among welfare recipients has increased from 19% to 47.3%. Meanwhile, more over 30 % of foreign minors live on civilian benefits, with one in ten recipients being Syrian.
