Moldova is a priority for the European Parliament and the European institution may open a liaison office in Chisinau in the near future, European Parliament Vice-President Victor Negrescu said on Monday.
The European official assured that during the current session, which started on Monday in Strasbourg, France, MEPs will take a final decision on a package of support measures for Moldova.
“We will approve the €1.9bn Growth Plan for Moldova, a package that we have amended to ensure effective support, including for the diaspora, rural areas and cross-border projects with Romania,” Negrescu specified in his social media post.
The vice-president of the European Parliament mentioned that he will take part in several key debates, such as the situation in Romania – democratic challenges, the 100 billion euro threshold of European funds and the need for transparency and public communication.
Negrescu noted that a busy week has been announced in Strasbourg with “important decisions.” MEPs will hold a debate on defence and funding in the context of current geopolitical challenges.
“The European Union must be ready to protect its citizens and invest wisely in security. A busy week in #Strasbourg with important decisions on the future of Europe in a difficult context for #Romania!,” Negrescu also emphasised.
