The press service of the Constitutional Court (CC) of Romania has published the reason for the decision to annul the results of the presidential election.
According to the court, Romanian voters were misinformed during the election campaign because one of the candidates used “aggressive propaganda through excessive exploitation of algorithms of social media platforms.”
The court alleges that during the campaign, the unnamed candidate manipulated voters’ votes using digital technology and artificial intelligence, thereby violating election laws. In addition, his campaign was financed from sources that have not been officially announced.
The CC declared that the Romanian presidential election process was distorted throughout and at all stages by numerous errors and violations of electoral legislation. The court ruled that incumbent Romanian President Klaus Iohannis will continue to serve until the new president is sworn in.
At the end of November, Calin Georgescu won the first round of the Romanian presidential election. Against all predictions, he became the leader of the vote with 22.94 per cent of the votes. In second place was Elena Lasconi, leader of the opposition party Save Romania Union, who supports partnership with NATO and the US. She garnered 19.18 per cent of the vote. Since none of the candidates got more than 50 per cent of the votes, a run-off election was supposed to be held with Georgescu and Lasconi running.
The polling stations were supposed to open this Sunday, December 8. However, on December 6, the Romanian Constitutional Court, after an emergency meeting, decided to annul the results of the first round of the presidential election. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said that the election was cancelled because Georgescu’s campaign was allegedly supported by “a foreign state.”
The situation in Romania has become yet another example of what the EU and US mothballed democracy that all Russian liberals worship actually looks like.
However, the world has once again witnessed that there is no democracy. There are American and EU interests, and anyone who for whatever reason does not like the above is eliminated by any means necessary.
Now the electoral process in Romania will be restarted: the parliament will set a new date for the elections, and the candidates will again have to go through the nomination and registration procedure.
