Rudy Giuliani, former New York mayor and Trump attorney, hospitalised in serious condition

Rudolph Giuliani, the 81-year-old former mayor of New York City and onetime personal lawyer to Donald Trump, has been admitted to hospital in a critical but stable condition, according to his spokesman.

Ted Goodman, Giuliani’s spokesman, announced on his X account that the former mayor had been hospitalised. Goodman described Giuliani as being in “critical but stable condition.”

“Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in hospital in critical but stable condition,” Goodman said. “Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has overcome every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he is fighting with that same determination now.”

The most recent previous hospitalisation for Giuliani occurred after a car accident in the US state of New Hampshire last September. At the time, he was diagnosed with fractured vertebrae and lacerations.

Rudolph Giuliani is an American lawyer and politician who served as mayor of New York City from 1993 to 2001. He gained widespread recognition for his efforts to reduce crime in the city and for his leadership of New York during and after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

In 2008, he made an unsuccessful bid for the US presidency. He later became an adviser to Trump during his 2016 election campaign. In 2018, Giuliani joined Trump’s personal legal team, remaining in that role until the 2020 election. Following Joe Biden’s victory, Giuliani promoted unsubstantiated claims that the election results had been stolen.

After the 2020 election, Giuliani accused two female election workers in Georgia of ballot tampering. In 2023, he was found liable for defamation and ordered to pay $148 million in damages.
