President of Tehran University Mohammad Moqimi said the academic center had recently signed an agreement with Moscow State University to develop a joint research spacecraft within two years, Iranian news agency Tasnim informed.
Mr. Moqimi announced the start of the project: the working group has already been assembled; scientific activities related to the space project have been launched. The President also noted that a special secretariat has been established in the research department of Tehran University to oversee the project.
According to him, the Vice President of Iran instructed the Planning and Budget Organisation of Iran to finance part of the joint project.
Iran launched the Khayyam satellite in August 2022. It was delivered into orbit by a Russian Soyuz rocket from Kazakhstan.
Iran cooperates with Russia in many areas, from trade to military deals. According to Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eesa Zarepoor, Tehran also plans to develop domestic space technology.
