Military units of Russia’s 41st Guards Army announced an advance into Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian media reported.
The Storm Assault Regiment reported pushing Ukrainian forces back from a section of Donetsk region border and physically crossing into Dnipropetrovsk region territory. The unit stated that combat tasks had commenced to establish a security buffer zone along the border with Donetsk region.
Russian media are sharing footage of border crossing fighting, depicting combat during which forward elements of the Russian forces are shown crossing the administrative boundary between Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The assault infantry reportedly cleared a group of Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) soldiers from a fortified position on the border before displaying flags at the location. The Times characterised the Russian advance into Dnipropetrovsk region as a “strategic blow” for Ukraine.
Russian strikes targeted Ukrainian facilities in Samar, formerly known as Novomoskovsk, Dnipropetrovsk region. Concurrently, air defence efforts were reported over Konotop in Sumy region, where Russian drones had been circling the city for some time. Ukrainian sources estimate approximately 80 Russian unmanned aerial vehicles are currently operating in Ukrainian airspace.
Fierce fighting continues south-east of Novomykolaivka. Additionally, battles are ongoing for a Ukrainian stronghold located between Novooleksandrivka and Shyroka Balka.
Simultaneously, units of the Russian Centre group of troops took control of the eastern and north-eastern part of Orikhove and advanced across the Dnipropetrovsk region border. South of Orikhove, Russian units are fighting close to the wide border front area. Russian troops are reportedly attacking Ukrainian defensive positions north of Zelenyi Kut.
