Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov flew to Cuba

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov flew to Cuba as part of his Latin American tour, which will take place from 19-22 February.

Lavrov is scheduled to meet with President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, who is also the first secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.

The following day, the Russian foreign minister will visit Venezuela as part of his Latin American tour. During this visit, Lavrov will meet with President Nicolas Maduro and Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. The Russian delegation will also hold talks with Bolivarian diplomats.

Maduro’s last visit to Russia was in September 2019, when the southern country was going through a difficult economic situation caused by arbitrary US sanctions against the Bolivarian revolution.

Lavrov will make a two-day visit to Brazil starting next Wednesday, where he will attend a meeting of G20 foreign ministers in Rio de Janeiro.

In June 2023, President Vladimir Putin received Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz in the Kremlin. At the meeting, Mr. Putin announced plans to develop cooperation with Cuba in the energy sector and to help Havana overcome sanctions.
