A Russian plane crashed in mountainous terrain in northeastern Afghanistan, air transport agency Rosaviatsia said on Sunday.
The Falcon 10 aircraft “disappeared from the radar” and contact was lost on Saturday evening, the federal agency said in a statement.
“According to preliminary information, six people were aboard the aircraft: four crew and two passengers.”
A spokesman for Afghanistan’s provincial government told AFP the plane went down in Badakhshan province, which borders China, Tajikistan and Pakistan.
“The plane has crashed but the location is not known yet. We have sent teams but they have not arrived yet,” said Zabihullah Amiri, the provincial information department’s head.
Russian investigators have announced the start of an investigation into the cause of the crash.
