Russia’s PM holds talks with China’s leader Xi Jinping in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Russia’s Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Beijing on Wednesday, declaring that maintaining close ties with Russia is a “strategic choice.”

Maintaining and developing China-Russia relations is a strategic choice made by both sides based on the fundamental interests of the two peoples.

Xi added that the countries should “continuously amplify the positive effects of high-level political ties” and “deepen cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy, connectivity and other fields.”

The two countries, whose relations have remained intact despite the military conflict in Ukraine, faced harsh criticism from Western leaders in recent years.

Mishustin claimed on Tuesday that relations between Moscow and Beijing had reached an “all-time high” during a discussion with his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang.

Russian PM’s visit to China came two months after President Vladimir Putin met with Xi Jinping and a month after a senior Chinese general was welcomed in Moscow.
