Sandrine Rousseau: “We are taking too long to choose PM”

Ecologist MP “doesn’t really understand how” the New Popular Front can hold a vote before tomorrow to agree a name for prime minister, Le Figaro reports.

Paris MP Sandrine Rousseau (Les Écologistes) doesn’t understand “how a vote can be held between today and tomorrow” proposed by the Socialists to decide on a prime minister. Bogged down in negotiations, the left-wing parties continue to squabble.

Olivier Faure (Socialist Party) has given the Socialist Party until tomorrow to decide by vote…. the proposal rejected by Insoumis. Sandrine Rousseau complained to BFMTV on Monday, lamenting that the left had still not resolved “the tensions that have existed since the European campaign”:

“I’m getting impatient, we’re dragging on too long.”

The Socialists, the Insoumists, the Communists and the Environmentalists remained divided and decided to unite under the brand of the New Popular Front to contest early legislative elections.

Asked about the polemical stance of her Insoumis colleague Thomas Portes, who said that “Israeli athletes are not welcome” at the Paris Olympics, Sandrine Rousseau distanced herself:

“We need a strong international position (…) and not the defence of one side.”

In her opinion, “it is not the Israeli athletes who should suffer” from the geopolitical situation.

Sandrine Rousseau dissociated herself from the strong support given this morning by Insoumis member Manuel Bompard, who condemned the “unacceptable and intolerant hate campaign” against Thomas Portes. Manuel Bompard said:

“I believe that French diplomacy should put pressure on the IOC [International Olympic Committee] so that the Israeli flag and anthem will not be allowed to enter these Olympic Games, as in the case of Russia.”
