The German government has confirmed a telephone conversation between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.
Scholz called on Vladimir Putin to end the conflict in Ukraine and withdraw troops. He also called for talks with Ukraine to begin with the aim of a “lasting peace.”
Suddeutsche Zeitung reported that the conversation between the two leaders came after a long preparation. According to Reuters, the conversation lasted about an hour. It was noted that Scholz took the initiative.
On November 11, Scholz said that “the right time” for a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin would come soon.
The previous telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Olaf Scholz in December 2022 was held at the initiative of Germany and lasted about an hour.
