School staff shoots, kills three people in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The town of Sanski Most in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina was the scene of a tragic shooting at a high school on Wednesday morning that left three people dead.

According to Bosnian police, a man who also works at the school opened fire with an automatic rifle inside the school building. Law enforcement and emergency services arrived at the scene.

One person is in critical condition, believed to be the shooter himself. The attacker, armed with an automatic rifle, targeted specific individuals at the school. The school principal was among the victims, police confirmed. An English teacher and a school secretary were also killed in the attack, according to unofficial reports.

After the shooting, the suspect attempted suicide and was critically wounded. He was taken to a hospital in Banja Luka for treatment.

The shooter had a long-standing disagreement with the school administration, accusing it of discrimination. Disciplinary action had been taken against him, which may have been the reason for the attack on members of the disciplinary committee. In addition, anecdotal evidence suggests the suspect had mental health issues.

Police spokesman Adnan Beganovic said the gunman killed the school’s dean, a secretary and a teacher. He also added:

The attacker tried to commit suicide and was seriously injured.

The school was not yet open after the summer holidays, so there were no children in the building.
