At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a late-night shooting in Brooklyn’s Coney Island neighbourhood on US Independence Day, according to New York police and ABC News. Police say a firearm was recovered but no arrests have been made.
The New York City Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at around 10:37 pm on West 31st Street. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and secured the area as emergency services treated victims.
Authorities confirmed that the injured included two men, two women, and four children aged 6, 7, 12, and 14. All victims were taken to hospital for treatment following the attack.
According to ABC News, seven of the victims are in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition. The NYPD has not yet identified a suspect.
