Slovak Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinak stated that PM Robert Fico’s recovery from gunshot wounds would be “extremely long.”
The prime minister’s recovery is finally on the right track. This recovery will be extremely long as his injuries are very serious… He is now accepting food.
Fico remains in hospital after he has been shot several times on May 15. It happened when he was greeting supporters after a cabinet meeting in the central town of Handlova.
The accused shooter, identified by local media as Juraj Cintula, a 71-year-old poet, faced a charge of premeditated attempted murder. The police have taken him into custody.
The Prime Minister underwent two operations lasting several hours each at a hospital in the central city of Banska Bystrica. Doctors described his condition as “satisfactory.”
Government adviser Erik Kalinak, who was present at the shooting, stated that only “millimetres” prevented the gunshot wounds from being fatal.
[The bullets] hit the small intestine in such a way that it was shot through five times, but the doctors performed miracles.
