Some of Iran’s enriched uranium survived attacks, Israel claims

Iran still has some enriched uranium left over from the US and Israeli bombings, according to Israeli intelligence, Israeli media reported on Friday, citing information from a briefing for journalists.

This uranium is 60% enriched and close to the level needed to make a nuclear bomb.Israel launched military action after noticing the start of rapid development of a bomb in Iran, Israeli officials said. According to them, Iran’s activity in developing the bomb increased sharply after Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah last autumn.

Israeli officials warned that attempts to retrieve remaining uranium stocks from bombed facilities would be detected and that Israel would have time to attack the facilities again.

Meanwhile, Israel is preparing for the possibility of further military action if Iran attempts to resume its nuclear programme, and Israeli officials believe that President Trump may give the green light to renewed Israeli attacks.

Israeli officials say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to reach an understanding with Trump on future US nuclear negotiations with Iran and on possible scenarios that would justify renewed military strikes.

Israel launched a military operation against Iran on the night of June 13, striking nuclear and military facilities and Iranian military personnel. Iran responded to the attack. At the end of June, the US struck three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

US President Donald Trump announced that the objectives had been achieved and that Iran’s nuclear programme had been destroyed. However, US intelligence disagreed with his conclusions.
