South Africa’s FM requires extra security due to threats after Gaza genocide case

South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor claimed she received threatening messages since her country filed a genocide lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice.

Pandor stated in Cape Town on Thursday that she had discussed the matter with Police Minister Bheki Cele.

I spoke to Minister Cele because of the various messages I am getting and I felt that it was better we had extra security.

According to Pandor, Israeli intelligence uses threats to intimidate those who oppose the Israel’s actions. Pandor added that she was more concerned about the fate of her family, as some social media posts mentioned her children.

“The people of the world and Palestine didn’t draw back when the apartheid state [in South Africa] was at its worst. They stood with us in the liberation movement. So, we can’t stand back now. We must be with Palestinians and one of the things we must not allow is a failure of courage.”

Last month, Pandor told a press conference at her office in the capital Pretoria that she had been threatened and insulted. She stated that some labelled her a member of the ISIS/Daesh terrorist group and a Hamas loyalist.
