South Korea’s Constitutional Court has rejected a decision to impeach Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, reinstating him as acting president, Korean media reported on Monday.
Han Duck-soo delivered an address to the nation and promised to take care of urgent tasks. He said:
“As acting president, I will make all my efforts to ensure stable governance in accordance with the Constitution and the law. I will put all my wisdom and capabilities to safeguard our national interests in the ongoing trade war, which has already become a reality.”
Han Duck-soo called for national unity amid a divided society over the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Han Duck-soo returned to office 87 days after the National Assembly voted to impeach him over his alleged role in suspended President Yoon’s declaration of martial law on December 3.
Yonhap News Agency reports that Yoon’s trial on charges of sedition will begin on April 14.
