South Korea and the US conducted a joint air exercise using advanced F-35A fighter jets from both countries over increased tensions in the region, the South joint air exercise Korean Air Force said on Friday.
The exercise was aimed at practising joint operational capabilities and showcased the superiority of the latest-generation stealth fighters alongside South Korea’s KF-16, F-15K and other aircraft.
Advanced F-35A fighter jets from both countries took part in the exercise and participated in defensive anti-air manoeuvres, including intercepting simulated enemy aircraft and missiles, the Air Force said.
The exercise came just days after North Korea’s fifth missile launch this year, which has further heightened tensions in the region. The joint drills emphasise the strengthening of deterrence against North Korean threats.
