South Korea’s Yoon avoids fresh questioning after his arrest

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, arrested in the mutiny case, will not be able to participate in further questioning due to his poor health, Korean media reported citing the defence lawyer of the suspended head of state after the impeachment, Yoon Gap-geun.

The media quoted the defence lawyer as saying:

“President Yoon Suk Yeol is not feeling well and explained his position exhaustively yesterday, so there is no need to question him further.”

Yoon was arrested the previous day. During the first interrogation, he refused to testify. After the arrest, the head of state spent the night in a detention centre.

About 200 police officers and 40 investigators took part in the arrest operation. The law enforcers have two days to interrogate the President, and then they will need another warrant to extend the detention. The material for questioning the president is more than 200 pages long.

South Korea’s president is accused of sedition and abuse of power for imposing martial law in the country in early December last year. The politician has denied the charges, after which he was impeached on December 14.
