Spain’s acting minister of social rights has proposed bringing Israel to the International Criminal Court for “war crimes,” according to local media.
Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported on Sunday that Ione Belarra posted a video accusing the European Union and the United States of “complicity in Israel’s war crimes.”
She called to actively condemn Israel for its military actions, hold the country accountable in an international court of law, and deplored the “planned genocide” in the Gaza Strip.
Gaza is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, with Israel cutting off water and electricity, fuel and medical supplies rapidly depleting, and civilians fleeing south following Israel’s warning to evacuate the north.
The war began on October 7 when Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, which involved multiple rocket salvos and infiltration into Israel by land, sea and air. Hamas claimed that the operation was launched in response to the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increasing settler oppression.
In response, Israel declared Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
The number of Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip has risen to 2,750, including 750 children. In Israel, 1,300 people were killed.
