Sri Lanka probes deaths of two tourists at hostel

Sri Lankan authorities are investigating the deaths of two foreign tourists who fell ill while staying at Miracle Colombo City hostel earlier this month, according to AP News.

The victims, identified as 24-year-old British citizen Ebony McIntosh and 26-year-old German national Nadine Raguse, were hospitalised on 1 February after experiencing severe vomiting.

A 30-year-old German man, who also fell ill, is currently receiving treatment.

Autopsies were conducted on Monday, but police have not yet determined the cause of death. The results of laboratory tests are awaited to provide further clarity.

The incident has raised concerns about safety and health standards at tourist accommodations in Sri Lanka, a popular destination for international travellers. Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation progresses.
