Russia is hosting the 27th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2024), dedicated to economic multipolarity.
St. Petersburg has become the world’s economic capital for three days, according to Russian media. Despite the sanctions, representatives from more than 130 countries are attending a major 2024 Russian economic summit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is also taking part in the plenary session.
The Sultanate of Oman has the honourable status of a guest country at this year’s forum. Its stand is located in the central pavilion and is at the centre of attention. Trade turnover between Oman and Russia grew by 60% in 2023, with tourist traffic almost quadrupling.
The delegation from Oman is represented by businessmen, diplomats, and officials. Saeeda Rashid Mohammed, official representative of the Omani delegation to SPIEF 2024, said:
We have a great desire to co-operate with Russian businesses, we would like to see a lot of them as investors in our market. We would also welcome more tourists in our country.
The Russian Finance Ministry is working on an initiative to use foreign digital financial assets in international settlements. According to Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov, the forum offers huge prospects in economic growth and decentralised finance.
