British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has arrived in Scotland, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump. During the talks, the two leaders will discuss trade agreements between the two countries, as well as the situation in Gaza.
The meeting, scheduled for July 28, will take place at Trump’s golf resort in Scotland. Starmer is expected to raise the issue of the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as well as discuss bilateral trade.
The talks will take place the day after the US and the EU reached a historic agreement ending a long-running tariff dispute and averting a full-scale trade war.
Starmer is expected to insist on the resumption of peace initiatives in Gaza amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
The meeting in Turnberry, south-west Scotland, comes amid growing concern among European countries about the situation in Gaza, as well as domestic pressure, with many calling on the British government to follow France’s example and officially recognise Palestine.
The leaders also intend to discuss the implementation of a new trade agreement between the UK and the US and joint efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
More than 220 members of the British Parliament, including representatives of the ruling Labour Party, are demanding that Starmer recognise the Palestinian state.
