Stoltenberg accused China of fueling war in Europe

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has accused China of instigating the biggest conflict in Europe since the end of World War II, Yomiuri Shimbun reports.

Mr. Stoltenberg said in an interview with Yomiuri:

NATO does not consider China an adversary, but the country represents a challenge to our values, interests and security.

According to Mr. Stoltenberg, China allegedly supports Russia in the production of UAVs and missiles by supplying it with technology and electronics. In this regard, the NATO secretary general said, the alliance needs to strengthen partnerships with Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand to put pressure on Beijing.

Earlier, Stoltenberg said that the West should make China “pay” for allegedly supporting Russia in the conflict in Ukraine. Stoltenberg said Xi Jinping is trying to “give the impression that he is in the background in this conflict in order to avoid sanctions.”

The NATO secretary-general said if at some point Beijing does not change course, the West “should make it pay.” He emphasised that there should be “consequences” for China.
