A sudden gust of strong wind caused a tree to collapse on a group attending an Easter egg hunt in northern Germany, leaving three people dead and several others injured, according to police and local reports.
Three people, including a baby, were killed when a powerful gust of wind brought down a tree during an Easter egg hunt in Germany, local media reported on Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday in northern Germany, where police said a 10-month-old girl was among those who died after being struck by a falling tree during the event.
Around 50 people from a nearby residential complex for young mothers, pregnant women and children had gathered for the Easter activity in a forest near the town of Satrupholm at approximately 11 a.m. At one point, a 30-metre tree collapsed onto the group, police said in a statement.
Four people were trapped beneath the tree. Emergency services administered first aid to a 21-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, but both died at the scene. The woman’s 10-month-old daughter later died in hospital. An 18-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital by helicopter.
The event had been organised by an institution that forms part of a state-funded child protection system, providing support to pregnant women and young mothers in need.
A severe wind warning had been issued for the area by the German meteorological service.
