Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated he would meet with the nation’s army and police chiefs on Friday to discuss a record spike in gang violence, CNN informed.
Tomorrow [Friday] I will meet the national police chief and the commander in chief to see how the defence force can help the police in their work against the criminal gangs.
In his address to the nation on Thursday, he also called on the parliament to unite in the face of the growing threat.
“I hope all parties in the Swedish parliament can come together in support of those strong and pattern-breaking actions that need to be taken.”
This month has seen a record number of shootings on the streets of major Swedish cities, with the problem starting to reach smaller towns, according to Reuters.
11 died from firearms in September. Police report that about 30,000 people in Sweden are directly involved in or have links to gang crime. Three people, two men and a woman, were killed Wednesday in gang violence near the Swedish capital Stockholm, Swedish police told CNN.
I can’t emphasise enough how serious the situation is. Sweden has never seen anything like it, no other country in Europe is experiencing anything like this.
The Prime Minister has promised to “hunt” the gangs and bring them to justice, jailing them if they are Swedish citizens or expelling them if they turn out to be foreign nationals.
