Chinese authorities have allowed Swedish police officers to board the Chinese ship Yi Peng 3 in the Kattegat Strait. The Swedes will play an observer role in the Chinese investigation, Chinese media reported on Thursday.
The Chinese vessel Yi Peng 3 has been anchored in the Kattegat Strait between the eastern coast of the Jutland peninsula and the southwestern part of the Scandinavian peninsula since a cable break in the Baltic Sea occurred about a month ago.
Chinese authorities have launched their own investigation on board the vessel, while Swedish police, along with representatives of the National Accident Commission, will participate as observers.
During a visit on board this Thursday, no investigative activities will take place.
Swedish police launched a preliminary investigation on suspicion of sabotage after two C-Lion1 submarine cables were damaged on the bottom of the Baltic Sea on November 17-18 this year.
Suspicion of the Yi Peng 3 arose after the ship appeared to have passed over the cables. The Chinese authorities said they are ready to co-operate with the countries concerned to find out what really happened.
