Swedish royalty attended Riksdag opening ceremony

The Swedish royal family attended the opening of the Swedish parliament in Stockholm, according to Royal News.

King Carl XVI Gustaf officially opened the Riksdag on Tuesday, 10 September, at the traditional ceremony for the 2024-2025 legislative year. He was accompanied by Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia, Princess Madeleine, and Christopher O’Neill.

The King, Queen, and Crown Princess Couple travelled to the Riksdag building in a horse-drawn carriage before Gustaf officially opened the National Assembly.

What you decide in this chamber will affect the Swedish people for many years to come. My hope and conviction [are] that you have respectful debates, that you listen to each other, and that you make the best decisions for Sweden.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson then delivered his government statement.

Prior to the official opening, the Swedish royal family also attended a church ceremony at Stockholm Cathedral together with government officials. Dean Jonas Eek led the service and Mikael Kurkiala gave a speech.

It was the first activity with the royal family for Princess Sofia since the announcement of her fourth pregnancy.
