Tesla recalls almost 4,000 Cybertrucks due to malfunctioning accelerator pedal

Tesla was recalling 3,878 Cybertrucks to fix an accelerator pedal pad that might have broken off and stuck in the interior trim, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported on Friday.

A stuck accelerator pedal pad can cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash, the NHTSA stated in a notice.

Tesla began deliveries of its Cybertruck electric pickup late last year, after a two-year delay due to production issues and battery supply constraints.

The company’s shares fell nearly 3% ahead of trading on Friday, extending a five-session losing streak that saw the stock lose about 14%. The car manufacturer would replace or repair the fault free of charge, with owners notified in letters mailed to them in June, the NHTSA announced.

According to a report by recall management company BizzyCar, the electric car maker had three recalls affecting about 2.4 million vehicles in the first quarter of 2024. However, most of Tesla’s recall issues were usually resolved through wireless software updates.

In February, Tesla recalled about 2.2 million vehicles in the US due to incorrect font size on warning lights, while US safety regulators elevated an investigation into the company’s vehicles over power steering loss to engineering review status.
