Texas governor: barbed wire reduced illegal immigration by thousands of times

The installation of barbed wire fences on the border reduced illegal migration thousands of times, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in an interview with Fox News.

The wire was installed in Eagle Pass, a town that is particularly popular among migrants. Up to four thousand refugees a day used to pass through that section of the border, but since the fences were installed, border guards have recorded no more than three people a day crossing the border.

Eagle Pass hosted a press conference with more than a dozen Republican governors. At the press conference, Governor Abbott called on Biden to decisively address the problem of migrants crossing the southern US border, whose numbers hit a record monthly high in December.

Abbott claimed Mr. Biden had “completely abdicated and abandoned his responsibility to enforce the laws of the United States.” Abbott said, speaking alongside the governors of Tennessee, Montana, Arkansas and Georgia:

Joe Biden, it is your turn now — your obligation, your duty, to follow the laws Congress passed and secure the border, just as Texas has.

President Biden spoke to his counterpart in Mexico, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on Saturday afternoon. The two “discussed challenges at our shared border and committed to continuing their productive partnership,” according to a readout of their phone call.

Earlier, former US President Donald Trump promised to close the US border if he wins the election and carry out mass deportations.
