Thailand’s foreign minister resigns amid government reshuffle

Thailand’s Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara announced his resignation on Sunday following recent cabinet reshuffles, according to Asian media.

Prior to the cabinet reshuffle, Parnpree served as deputy prime minister and foreign minister. He was only given the foreign affairs portfolio in the new cabinet.

In a resignation letter to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Parnpree, a member of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, expressed his intention to step down as foreign minister after he was removed as deputy prime minister. In his view, the reason for the suspension was not due to a lack of achievements.

Parnpree declared that he had served honestly and conscientiously in the field of international relations and international economy, attracted more foreign investment and promoted diplomacy.

He also thanked the Prime Minister for giving him the opportunity to serve. Parnpree added that holding only the position of foreign minister could hinder his work in international relations and that there were other qualified candidates who could take on the role.

Asked whether he would continue to work with the ruling Pheu Thai Party, Parnpree responded that he would make a decision on his political career later.
