The European Union and the U.K. could be open to each other’s trade relations again as German Finance Minister Christian Lindner says: “If you want to intensify your trade relationship with the EU – call us!” according to Mailonline.
It is well known that some German corporations have struggled after Brexit and as a consequence hopes are being revived to improve the already existing relationship between the EU and the U.K.
Lindner characterised the hope for the return to trade relations as follows:
We really appreciate the United Kingdom and its values, its people…. and I would really, really appreciate it if we can intensify (the trading relationship) again.
Such comments were made shortly after Rishi Sunak’s deal with the EU on post-Brexit arrangements in Northern Ireland. It “removes any sense of a border in the Irish Sea.”
The clarity is still evident in the UK’s return to taking part in the European Union’s (EU) £85 billion Horizon research programme.
In the U.K. Both Labour and the Conservatives were committed to leaving the EU and the single market, however, Sir Keir Starmer’s party has been clear enough that it wants a better trade deal with the bloc.
