Three generations of Norwegian royalty welcome President of Iceland

Icelandic President Halla Tomasdottir and her husband Björn Skulason are on a three-day state visit to Norway on Tuesday, where they were formally received by King Harald and Queen Sonja at the Palace Square in Oslo.

Three generations of Norwegian royalty welcomed Iceland’s presidential couple. The hosts include King Harald V and Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Håkon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, and their daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, who is participating in a state visit for the first time.

President Halla visited Akershus Fortress and laid a wreath on behalf of the Icelandic people at the memorial to Norwegians who died in World War II. She visited the Norwegian Parliament (Storting) and met with its chairman, Masood Garahani.

Later, a reception will be held in honour of King Harald and Queen Sonja, with performances by comedian Ari Eldjarn and pianist Benjamin Gisli Einarsson. During the event, the Icelandic national team of chefs will prepare and serve local appetisers. During the visit, the 40-member business delegation will focus on enhancing co-operation in the fields of fisheries and green energy.

While exchanging diplomatic gifts, Princess Ingrid Alexandra was awarded the insignia of the Order of the Falcon, which she will wear for the first time at the evening state banquet.
