Around 3 million people in south-west England and parts of Wales received phone text alerts that Storm Darragh was approaching on Friday.
Welsh First Minister Baroness Eluned Morgan wrote earlier on X that emergency notifications should have arrived on phones at 06:45 p.m. She said that the alert system is arranged in such a way that when a message is received, the phone starts to emit a loud siren sound even in silent mode, and the sound itself does not stop until the owner of the device switches it off.
It is specified that earlier the meteorological bureau of Great Britain declared the highest, “red” level of threat. This colour is used only in cases where there is a real threat to human lives. The speed of wind gusts can reach 144 kilometres per hour. In the danger zone are residents of coastal areas of Wales, the Bristol Channel and the western areas of Bristol and Cardiff.
The meteorological bureau also said about possible power cuts and power outages in areas affected by the storm.
Earlier, on November 27, the transport system in the south of the UK was halted due to the Storm Conall. The meteorological bureau of the kingdom also warned of delays on roads and possible power cuts.
