Three people suffered non-life threatening injuries at a railway station in Paris, two were later taken to hospital.
The attacker, armed with a knife and hammer, was reportedly tackled by passengers and a security agent at the Gare de Lyon train station shortly before 8am on Saturday morning, after which police arrived on the scene. Police said initial indications were that the attack was not terrorism-related.
The arrested man was from Mali and showed police an Italian driving licence when arrested, French media reported.
Interior Minister GĂ©rald Darmanin wrote on X: “This morning at the Gare de Lyon an individual injured three people with a knife before being arrested. One person is seriously injured; two others suffered higher injuries. They were treated by the emergency services. Thank you to those who restrained the perpetrator of this unacceptable act.”
Last year, the year saw several knife attacks in the French capital. In December, a 26-year-old Frenchman stabbed a German tourist near the Eiffel Tower. Last January, six people were injured in a knife attack at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris.
